O.P.M.A OPMA is a group of six farmers in Okanogan county who have joined together to form a co-op that allows them to pool their resources for improved farm to consumer potential.
Among the many benefits of a cooperative, marketing and transportation are the highlights for a farm region that is a five hour drive to the Puget Sound corridor. For example, by working together the six farms are able to put their weekly produce deliveries in one truck driving over the mountains, verses five seperate trucks. That allows for fuel conservation as well as better time management.
Another key benefit is seasonal consistency of produce. For example, four seperate farms will work to produce a crop of cherries. Each of these farms may grow different varieties of cherries that will harvest at different times in the season. Instead of a single farm having fresh cherries in June then not again until late July, these farms together can provide cherries from June through August. It makes for a longer cherry season with consistency for the consumer. | Okanogan Producers Marketing Association Applecart Fruits
